Kathryn Dekas presents Google’s analytics value chain for people analytics. Through the value chain she describes how HR departments should move away from opinions and start using data to support their claims. She points out that pure, raw data is not very useful and therefore this data should be transformed into metrics. Simply reporting metrics, however, does little for the organizations. She emphasizes that these metrics should be analyzed to achieve important, actionable insights that can create value for the organization. She gives two great examples of how the analytics value chain added value to the organization. Firstly, how they found the traits that make for good managers within google and, secondly, how the value chain can be applied to strategic personnel planning.
